  • COVID-19 Session II

    This is the second in a two-part collaborative series on the COVID-19 pandemic. This session is sponsored by SURF and will include 3 talks: 1) Pulmonary/Vascular Dynamics in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients (Dr. Andrew Gow), 2) Pathologies (Dr. Ken Reuhl), and 3) Clinical Management of Severe Cases of COVID-19 infection (Dr. Jared Radbel).

  • Clinical and Basic Toxicology of Opiates

    Dean Joseph Barone (School of Pharmacy) will present an engaging presentation on the clinical management of opiate overdoses. This session will also include an interactive research seminar by Dr. Amy Kohtz (Brain Health Institute) on mechanistic opiate research as well as a forensics kit-based activity that will be mailed to students.

  • LinkedIn Profiles

    Dr. Mindy O’Mealia from the Rutgers Career Exploration and Success Office will provide a dynamic hands-on session on how to develop an effective social media presence.

  • Research Symposium

    A series of mini-talks on a variety of research areas will be provided by senior PharmD students from the Pharmacy Honors Research Program.

  • Countermeasures to Chemical Warfare

    Dr. David Jett (NIH/NINDS) will be providing an overview of the NIH/DOD CounterACT program that will be coupled with a Rutgers scientist research presentation and an interactive team activity run by Dr. Joshua Gray (US Coast Guard) focused on the re-purposing of drugs to treat chemical weapon injuries.   • Discovery Toxicology and Abstract Writing

    Dr. Lois Lehman-McKeeman (Vice President, Pharmaceutical Candidate Optimization, Bristol-Myers Squibb) will provide an engaging research presentation on de-risking compounds and early screening of new molecular entities for potential liabilities. Dr. Lauren Aleksunes (Rutgers) will host an interactive session that walk participants through the construction of written and graphical abstracts.

  • Dynamic Pharmacology and Toxicology Career Panel

    Scientists and clinicians in clinical toxicology/emergency medicine, personal care product, chemical and pharma industries, academia, and government will share their careers and meet in small groups for Q&A. A simulated activity in clinical poisonings will also be completed during this session.

  • Environmental Health Seminars

    Dr. Phoebe Stapleton (Rutgers) will be presenting about microplastic exposure in pregnancy. Dr. Allison Kupsco (Columbia) will share her research in environmental epidemiology.  A simulated activity in epidemiology will also be completed during this session.

  • Environmental Chemical Sampling II

    SURF participants will receive the ICP/MS data from their home drinking water samples and will compare to NJ DEP recommended limits. Dr. Pamella Tijerna (CTEH Environmental Services) will share case studies focused on crisis management, risk perception and communication, and remediation.
